Blood donation camp at NITIE

Posted by lifeatnitie on July 19, 2010

Rotaract Club, NITIE in association with Samarpan blood bank organized a blood donation camp at NITIE premises on 17th July 2010. The initiative was a huge success with a total of 84 units of blood being collected during the 5 hours of the camp. Out of the 110 students who turned up for the camp, 26 had to turn back disappointed as they did not qualify due to health reasons. The event was conducted under the aegis of Rotary club of Powai. It was nice to see the management students of NITIE take part voluntarily for a good cause and especially at a time when the blood bank had a Shortage of blood. The event resulted in creating awareness among many first time donors about the benefits of donating blood. It also dispelled many a myth about the safety concerns attached to it. The donors were given certificates as an act of appreciation for donating blood. They were also given complementary caps from Samarpan blood bank which carried the message on importance of blood donation. India lags behind in voluntary blood collected from its people and the youth of today have to show the way forward in improving the situation.
