Rotaract Club, NITIE in association with Hariyali NGO organized a tree plantation drive at Bhavale hills on 25th July, 2010. It was a huge success with participation of 34 volunteers from the management students. A bus was organized to drop the students at the plantation site at Bhavale. The group set forth for the journey at 6:30 AM in the morning. The drive was very refreshing and appeasing to the eye. The greenery of the pastures and freshness in the air delighted everyone. On reaching the plantation site, a team of Hariyali veterans received the group and gave instructions on the day’s plans. Hariyali has a nursery at Thane, where seeds are planted in small plastic covers and allowed to grow to a certain height. Those saplings were then moved to the Bhavale hi
lls plantation site during the rainy season as the chance of their survival is more at this time.
All the volunteers were excited to be in the midst of nature, with rain playing hide and seek all the time. Everyone toiled hard for 3 hours and the operation resulted in successful plantation of about 90 plants. The site had a reservoir as a part of the water conservation initiative. There were multiple groups volunteering on the same day and many corporates and college students had come to spend a day doing something worthwhile for mother nature. After the plantation, the group was taken for a tour around the hills which had wonderful views of some caves, reservoirs and waterfalls. It was a day that all the volunteers would remember and cherish for a long time to come.
